ADELAIDE, Australia — Winspear looks abroad for its latest signing, Swapmeet.

The multiple award-winning Australian four-piece becomes Winspear’s first signing outside of the United States, Billboard can exclusively reveal.

Hailing from Adelaide, Swapmeet is welcomed to Winspear ahead of their SXSW debut this March, and follows on the heels of their signing to Ground Control Touring.

The indie act caught the buzz with a spot at the BIGSOUND summit in 2023 and, since then, has supported the likes of Suki Waterhouse, The Murder Capital, and shared stages with dust, Floodlights, West Thebarton, The Belair Lip Bombs, Twine, dogworld, Juice Webster, Egoism, doris and others.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Australia’s Swapmeet to the Winspear roster as our first signing outside the U.S.,”  comments Winspear founder Jared Jones, in a statement to Billboard.

“From the first spin, it was clear the band has a distinct voice and is fearless in their creative instincts. Their songs balance emotional weight with an undeniable sense of play — and they certainly know how to end a song with a bang in a way that has you reaching for the replay button.”

The group, led by Venus O’Broin (guitar, vocals), alongside Joshua Doherty (bass), Maxwell Elphick (guitar, drums, vocals), and Jack Medlyn (guitar, drums, vocals), met as teens in the early 2020s while playing in various projects in their hometown, all bonding over their love of the alternative scene of the ‘90s.

Think Pavement and Sonic Youth.

A debut single dropped in late 2023, and was followed by the EP, Oxalis, in mid-2024. Oxalis went on to win for best release and best song for the dreamy “Ceiling Fan” at the SA Music Awards, as community radio threw its collective support behind the youngsters.

Last year, Swapmeet won the Justin Cosby Music Prize for best emerging artist at SXSW Sydney 2025, with its panel of judges giving a shout out for their “raw, experimental and energetic sound with a punk spirit.”

“Since we announced Swapmeet on the lineup, the band attracted a significant amount of industry interest thanks to their quality songwriting and cohesive production,” Claire Collins, ex-SXSW Sydney head of music, said at the time. “Throughout the week, they backed up the buzz with a compelling show, producing gorgeous indie anthems punctuated by a punk spirit. We can’t wait to see what they do next.”

At Winspear, the Los Angeles via Indiana label, Swapmeet joins a roster that includes Wishy, Slow Pulp and Winter. The Aussies will strut their stuff in Austin, TX when they perform March 13 at Valhalla, for The Planetary Group’s evening showcase of standout indie acts, including Wilby, Cashier, Grrrl Gang, Radium Dolls, and Haters.
